The NL-53 series offers various enhanced functions to connect to other communication devices and to maximize the effectiveness of noise measurement tasks. Several optional programs are available for increased sound measurement capability.
Designed for a wide range of tasks, ranging from basic noise measurements to advanced noise analysis.
The NL-53 is a Class I Sound Level Meter designed for a wide range of tasks ranging from basic noise measurements to advanced noise analysis. Each NL-53 is equipped with a color LCD touch screen, making it easy to operate for the first time. Each unit also features a waterproof mechanism to reduce malfunctions caused by sudden rainfall or unexpected exposure to water. A LAN communication terminal enables control of the NL-53 and acquisition of measurement data from a web browser, making it possible to manage measurements from a remote location.
Measurement start triggers can be defined based on level exceedances, time, or external triggers using a trigger input cable. Advanced triggers of audio (.WAV) recordings, 1/1 and 1/3 octave band analysis, and FFT analysis can be done using optional extension programs.
The NL-53 features measurements of A, C and Z frequency weightings, measurement of Leq, LeqI (Impulse Leq), moving Leq, LE (sound exposure level), Lpeak, SPL, Lmax, Lmin, with Fast, Slow or Impulse time constants, 5 user-defined statistical calculation of percentile levels Ln, and Ttm5 (TMAX5). Additionally, up to 3 additional measurement data can be collected using any combination of frequency weighting or time constants with the utilization of sub-channel features. Measurement data is calculated and manually stored for a user defined measurement duration. Data logging and automatic store functions are possible with the option NX-43EX Extended Function Program preinstalled on the NL-53EX version of the meter for increased functionality right out of the box. Data is stored on an SD card for easy transfer and analysis using Excel, using Rion’s AS-60 Data Management Software for Environmental Acoustic Measurement, or Norsonic’s NorConnect Software.
Each NL meter is delivered with the following:
The NX-43EX Extended Function Program Option enables the Auto store function needed for simultaneous and continuous measurements, and automatic storing of instantaneous values of LP [SPL], Lmax, Lmin, Lpeak with defined resolution 10, 25, 100 or 200ms, or 1 second. Calculated values such as the continuous sound pressure level (Leq), percentile sound levels (Ln), as well as Lmax and Lmin and Lpeak can be stored with defined resolution down to 1 second. A comparator output feature on the I/O port can be defined such that it is turned on when a level is exceeded for a specific channel. This is useful when sending signal to an outboard relay for external notifications such as audible alarms or visual displays. Data can be continuously transferred out of the meter using USB, RS-232C and LAN communications. This feature is convenient for designing users’ own control programs where data has to be transferred continuously from the meter to a computer. This option also activates three different measurement start triggers based on level exceedances, time, or external triggers using a trigger input cable. The LAN feature allow for the meter to be controlled from a web browser of a computer, making it possible to manage and transfer measurements from a remote location. This option also enables the use of up to 4 different color markers so that characteristic noise events can be marked and reviewed later. By linking with Environmental measurement data software AS-60, it is also possible to exclude noise data at marker locations. This option is required for the installation of other function program options.
The NL-53 meter is built to be expandable and upgradable, providing users with a comprehensive measurement tool for years ahead. Each unit includes Rion’s 18 month warranty. All program options are designed for easy installation through Rion’s streamlined installation process, which is both quick and user-friendly. Each option is pre-installed on SD cards, enabling users to independently install the software by inserting the SD card into the instrument and following the installation procedure. Furthermore, the same SD cards can be used to uninstall the options for installation and use on different meters, as needed.
This program option enables the analysis frequency analysis using Octave and 1/3 Octave Frequency Band filters compliant with IEC 61260-1:2014. Previously measured data can be loaded and shown in an overlay graph display together with current analysis data for comparison. Additionally, this option enables the calculation and display of NC, RC, and Cz ratings, and their associates rating curves. Recalculation and data management of the results are possible using the AS-60RT Environmental Acoustic Measurement Software.
This program option enables the possibility to record audio files in raw, uncompressed waveform .WAV file format. Audio recordings can be initiated during an entire measurement period, triggered manually by the user, or triggered based on level exceedances. Users have the ability to define trigger levels across up to 4 different time periods throughout the day. The .WAV file format supports bit depth rates of 16 or 24 bits with sampling rates of 12, 24, or 48 kHz. Pre-trigger duration (Pre-Time) can be defined at 1, 5, 10, 30, or 60 seconds. With this option installed, users have the ability to listen to the live audio remotely through a web browser when connected to the meter via LAN. The .WAV files can be further processed with the AS-70 Waveform Analysis Software with graphing, sound level calculations, frequency analysis, file output, and sound file playback.
This program option enables the possibility to perform FFT frequency analysis within a frequency range of 20 kHz and a frequency resolution of 2.5 Hz (8,000 spectrum lines). Previously measured analysis data can be loaded and shown in an overlay graph display together with current analysis data. The peak list display shows up to 8 peaks of frequency lines. Supported frequency windows include Hanning and Rectangular.
The NL-53 sound level meter complies with the following national and international standards: IEC 61672-1: 2013 Class 1, ANSI/ASA S1.4-2014/Part1 Class 1, JIS C 1509-1: 2017 Class 1, JIS C 1516: 2020 Class 1
